IMPERFECT PERFECTION

IMG_0510.jpeg

The material study 'Imperfect Perfection' experiments with a leather-like material. The material is created by bacteria spinning fibers of cellulose. During the research project this material will be investigated to see in which ways it can be useful for the development of sustainable materials.

In the research project 'Imperfect Perfection' the closed circular system, where living organisms grow in, is being copied. The bacteria create a new material which can be a substitute for conventional materials. The possibilities of this biodegradable material will be further investigated during this project.

The new material that is created by bacteria spinning fibers of cellulose has leather-like qualities, but also has imperfections compared to leather from animal skins. With the focus on production methods, tactile and aesthetic characteristics such as color, texture and transparency, the imperfections of this material form the basis for new material solutions.
